your classic new year’s post

alrighty, time for some more incoherent ramblings after the holiday hiatus.

I can’t lie, not writing here for 10 minutes every day gave me some anxiety, because it’s a goal I’m now holding myself to so by not doing it I feel as if I’m letting myself down.

That being said a break was nice. It’s the cliche of all cliches but I do feel a bit more refreshed and recharged after the start of the new year.

Based on what I’ve observed on social media over the past decade, it seems that it’s become rather uncool to participate in the NYE tradition of resolutions.

I think it’s just one of many symptoms of the post-earnest culture we’ve found ourselves in. It’s corny to goal set at the beginning of the new year, or so most young people would seem to believe.

Yet the very same audience is participating in dry January this year en force, so maybe it’s still cool to do but not cool to talk about.

It’s not a hot take whatsoever, but I do really believe in the idea of a new year creating a fresh start. Goals can be hard to achieve, and the hard part of achieving them is starting them, so a new year can help us out tremendously with that first seemingly insurmountable hurdle.

Starting a goal is scary, but doing things together makes them less scary.

I do feel like I am currently enjoying having started my goals the month before though, because even worse than the first hurdle is the wall we all seemingly hit 3 weeks into starting something new.

I hit that wall right at the holiday break, and now I get to start the new year with a second wind.

And while none of these entries are providing anything of real sustenance, I’m excited to see where they go.
