what was i trying to do?
I feel I have recently entered a very distinctly new era of adulthood.
The era where you kinda have to grow up and force yourself to get anything done that isn’t an immediately necessary chore. I mean maybe it’s just me but I do feel like this is a common realization amongst some of my peers as well.
Eventually I just got to the point where I recognized the fact that only I can do myself these favors, only I can be my own parent. It’s simultaneously frustrating and freeing. Finally.
One tactic I’ve adopted to help me accomplish the things I’d normally procrastinate is using kitchen timers to signify that I’ll be working for X amount of time without checking my phone or following my distractible nose.
It’s funny how I have to treat myself like my own child in order to get stuff done, but I swear to god it’s been working like a charm.
I suppose it must’ve been easier to focus on the task at hand back in the pre-smartphone days. It’s doubly difficult if you work in social media to any degree - countless times I’ve opened instagram to accomplish some task for one of my brands, only to find myself coming-to from a 20-minutes-deep doom scroll.
It’s a lot like how I imagine being abducted by aliens must feel - one second you’re doing something the next it’s an hour later and you’ve somehow transported to the couch and you’re dazed by a 3x8in glowing screen.
alright 10 minutes is up - have a great weekend.
