undeveloped rolls
My recent weekend getaway to Lone Pine reminded me of my film photography days.
I used to shoot a lot on my little Olympus, I think there were a handful of years where I could say it was my favorite hobby, perhaps even a definitive one.
I would take it on every trip, developing multiple rolls one weekend at a time in hopes of coming away with more than just a couple of well exposed frames.
I still shoot today, but now I operate more at a snail’s pace. I think I’ve been shooting on one roll now for the better part of the past two months.
There’s been no lack of subject matter to capture - I’ve been on the road plenty (my favorite context to photograph), with my camera at the ready.
My aunt was even so kind as to send me an entire duffel bag of her old analog camera gear. I’ve rifled through it dozens of times but can’t seem to find the focus required to learn how to use it all, or even bother to learn how it could be used.
I think focus is the key word here.
I always loved capturing moments - analog or otherwise - and I think I have a knack for framing a shot. Still, I’ve yet to sit myself down and really round out my photography toolkit by teaching myself the technicalities.
Maybe it’s just how my mind works, but I know that if I could just spend a month or so building a solid technical foundation that I could perhaps unlock a new room in my creative work that I currently don’t even know exists.
I guess developing is just sort of a forever kinda thing, huh?
